Partners for Stewardship:
We understand that in order to see a movement of God’s Spirit it will take many of us working together for a common purpose. Here’s a few of the ministries and organizations with whom we partner to see God’s Kingdom come and His will be done in Akron and around the world as it is in heaven:
Angel Tree: Believes that no life is beyond the reach of God’s power. Through partnership with the local church and other nonprofit organizations, we work together to meet the spiritual, physical, and personal needs of prisoners and their families, with the ultimate goal of seeing them restored to Christ, their families and their communities. http://www.prisonfellowship.org/programs/angel-tree/
Resurrection Orphans and Widow Service: Enabling Orphaned and Vulnerable Children as well as Widows (OVCWs) in Ethiopia become self-sufficient and contribute to the development of their societies through education and adequate care/support. Sponsor a child or widow here: http://www.rowsinternational.org/ or www.onechangedlife.org
International Justice Mission: International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to secure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to ensure that public justice systems – police, courts and laws – effectively protect the poor. We believe in Asset Based Community Development, which means that we value each individual and the contribution that he or she can make to the overall community. We believe that each person, young and old and everywhere in between, has unique strengths and talents that they bring to the table. While we address some of the weaknesses in our community, we do so by utilizing our greatest resource…each individual!
In this initial phase, we are focusing our efforts in the Crestland Park Neighborhood of West Akron through three primary areas of development:
- Food – we believe every person should have access to life giving food. Right now, we are doing our part through the Crestland Park Community Garden and by serving at The Landing Open Choice Food Pantry (ACRC – 50 Marshall Ave, Akron).
- Housing and Land – our desire is to make home ownership possible and to convert empty plots of land into opportunities for growth (Crestland Park Community Garden; Rain Garden; Apiary)
- Education – we are committed to helping children have opportunities to become literate because literacy is the key to a good education. We do this through our summer “Sidewalk Stories” and we are in the process of partnering with local schools for tutoring 3rd graders to help them become reading proficient so that they can move on to 4th grade. Let us know if you’d be interested in helping out in one of these areas.
